Revoke freeze authority on Solana
A freeze authority can lock any holder’s token account so they can never sell — the mechanism behind most Solana honeypots. Revoke it to make freezing impossible forever.
What a freeze authority can do
The freeze authority can freeze any token account of the mint. A frozen account cannot send or receive the token, so its owner cannot sell. That makes an active freeze authority a red flag on RugCheck, Jupiter, Raydium and DEX screeners, and many buyers avoid such tokens entirely.
Freeze authority and DEX listings
Liquidity pools and aggregators treat freezable tokens as risky because any swap could suddenly fail for a frozen wallet. Revoking the freeze authority before adding liquidity or marketing your token removes that warning. Regulated assets (stablecoins, RWAs) sometimes keep it on purpose — memecoins and community tokens should not.
Solana token authorities explained
Mint authority
The only key that can create new tokens of a mint. Revoked = fixed supply.
Freeze authority
Can freeze individual token accounts so they cannot move the token. Revoked = nobody can ever be frozen.
Update authority (metadata)
Can change the token’s name, symbol, logo and metadata URI — in the Metaplex metadata account or the Token-2022 metadata extension. Revoked = immutable metadata.
Token-2022 extension authorities
Token-2022 mints may also have a transfer-fee config authority (can change the fee), a withdraw-withheld authority (collects the fees) and a metadata pointer authority. Each can be kept, transferred or revoked here.
How to revoke a Solana token authority
- Connect the wallet that holds the authority (Phantom, Solflare, Backpack or any Solana wallet).
- Paste your token’s mint address and load it — tokens you created with ChainTx appear as one-click shortcuts.
- Review the current authorities and how rug checkers rate them.
- Choose “Revoke” (or “Transfer” to a new address) for each authority you want to change.
- Approve the single transaction in your wallet; the page reloads the token and shows the new state within seconds.
Frequently asked questions
What is a mint authority on Solana?
It is the address allowed to create new tokens of a mint. While it exists, the supply can grow at any time; once revoked, the supply is fixed forever.
What is a freeze authority and why do rug checkers flag it?
The freeze authority can lock any holder’s token account so it cannot send or sell. Because that is how many honeypots trap buyers, RugCheck, Jupiter and DEX screeners warn about tokens that still have one.
What does “make token immutable” mean?
It revokes the metadata update authority, so the token’s name, symbol, logo and metadata link can never be changed again.
Can I undo revoking an authority?
No. Revoking sets the authority to nobody, and no one — not even the original creator — can ever restore it. If you might need the power later, transfer it to a multisig instead.
Does revoking mint authority affect existing tokens, holders or liquidity?
No. Balances, holders and liquidity pools stay exactly as they are. Only the ability to mint new tokens disappears.
How much does it cost?
The service fee is 0.05 SOL per transaction — revoke or transfer any number of authorities at once — plus the Solana network fee, a fraction of a cent. The fee is part of the same transaction, so nothing is charged if the change fails.
Do I need this for a Pump.fun token?
Pump.fun launches already have their mint and freeze authorities revoked. It is meant for tokens you created yourself (SPL or Token-2022), for example with our Token Creator.
Should I revoke an authority or transfer it to a multisig?
Revoke when the token is final and no further minting, freezing or metadata changes will ever be needed. Transfer to a multisig (e.g. Squads) when a team still needs controlled access — holders will see that a multisig, not a single wallet, holds it.
Does it work with Token-2022 tokens?
Yes. Besides mint, freeze and metadata, you can manage the Token-2022 transfer-fee config, withheld-fee withdraw and metadata pointer authorities.
How do I check a token’s authorities?
Paste the mint address into the tool — it shows every authority, who holds it and the rug-check risk signals. On Solscan, “Mint Authority” and “Freeze Authority” show “none” once revoked.
